Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
This policy explains what Easy Bill Split collects when you use easybillsplit.com, why we collect it, who sees it, and the choices you have. We keep it short because we collect little.
1. Who we are
Easy Bill Split (“Easy Bill Split,” “we,” “us”) operates easybillsplit.com, a web app for splitting a restaurant check. We are the business responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
Mailing address: Easy Bill Split, 18039 Chatsworth St #3301, Granada Hills, CA 91394. Privacy contact: privacy@easybillsplit.com. For help with the product, use the in-app Help.
2. What we collect
We collect only what the service needs to work.
- Names you type. The display name you give when you start or join a bill, how many people you are paying for, and the names of anyone you add to a bill who isn't using the app.
- Email (optional). If you add an email, we use it to sign you in with a one-time code. We do not use passwords.
- Bill contents. Items, prices, tax, tip, service charges, discounts, and who claimed what.
- Receipt photos and extracted text. The image you upload and the text and numbers read from it.
- Payment handles you choose to show. Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, or Zelle identifiers the person who paid adds so others can pay them back. If you save them to your account, we add them to bills you join. We do not receive or process those payments.
- Tips and Host Pro status. Stripe handles your card details. We store a Stripe customer ID and your subscription status, not card numbers.
- Support chat transcripts. Messages you send to our in-app Help chat.
- Technical data. IP address, device and browser details, and server logs, collected by our hosting provider when you use the service.
3. How we use it
We use personal information to run the service: to read receipts, calculate each person's share, show bills to the people on them, sign you in, send one-time codes, process Host Pro subscriptions and tips, answer support questions, keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
We do not run advertising. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA).
4. Who can see your information
Other people on your bill. Everyone on a bill can see participants' display names, what each person claimed, and each person's share. If the person who paid shows payment handles, everyone on that bill can see them.
Service providers. We share information with companies that process it for us, only for the purposes below.
- Supabase — database, sign-in, and file storage.
- Vercel — hosting and delivery of the website.
- Google (Gemini API) — reading the text and numbers from receipt images.
- Anthropic — powering the AI support chat.
- Resend — delivering sign-in codes and support emails.
- Stripe — payments for Host Pro and tips.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect people's safety or our rights, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information unless we notify you of a change.
6. How long we keep it
- Share codes expire after 7 days.
- Bills and receipt images created by people without an account are deleted about 30 days after creation.
- If you have an account, we keep your bills while the account exists. Free accounts see their last 30 days. Host Pro accounts see all of their bills.
- We delete your information on request, subject to the exceptions in the law.
- Server and security logs are kept for the period set by each provider.
Information about payments, such as invoices, may be kept longer where tax or accounting rules require it.
7. Your California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, you have these rights under the CCPA/CPRA:
- Know and access the personal information we collect, use, and disclose about you.
- Delete personal information we collected from you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Portability — receive your information in a portable format.
- Opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
- Limit use of sensitive personal information. We do not use sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to provide the service.
- Non-discrimination. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.
To make a request, email privacy@easybillsplit.com. We will verify your identity by sending a message to the email address tied to your account, or by asking you to confirm details about your bills. You can use an authorized agent; we may ask for proof that you authorized them and may verify your identity directly with you.
We respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we may extend by up to another 45 days and will tell you why.
8. California Shine the Light
California Civil Code section 1798.83 lets California residents ask which categories of personal information a business shares with third parties for their direct marketing. We do not share personal information with third parties for their direct marketing.
9. Children
Easy Bill Split is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email privacy@easybillsplit.com and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use encrypted connections, access controls on our database, and private storage for receipt images, which are shown only through short-lived links. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong email password and keep your email account secure, since a one-time code sent there signs you in.
11. Users outside the United States
We operate from the United States and process information there, and our service providers may process it in other countries. If you use the service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, give additional notice in the app or by email. Your continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
